The students of W.H. Morden benefit in many ways from the hard work of our volunteers. Every lending hand counts – whether you can lead an initiative or spare an hour a month. It is a way to interact with your child’s school and connect with the friendly faces of our teachers, administrators and students. There are many volunteering opportunities available fitting into various schedules.

Two Simple Steps

Get A Police Record Check - The Halton District School Board requires our volunteers to obtain a one time Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening from the Halton Regional Police. Application forms are available at the Halton Regional Police Department (1151 Bronte Road). Please apply for your police check if you do not have one and you are considering volunteering.

Submit This Volunteer Form For Any Of The Opportunities Below - This is a great way to be connected with your child while helping make the school experience great for everyone. The students, teachers and families of WH Morden all thank you!

Yes, I'd like to volunteer at W.H. Morden!

The Extended Core Team consists of key roles with various branches of involvement. In order for these areas to be effective and efficient, and continue working well together, more volunteers are needed to cover more tasks within each.

Treasurer

  • A key role on the Core Team that includes managing the revenues and expenditures of the W.H. Morden Home & School Association. This includes valuable support input toward the process of developing a Budget for the year, recording revenues and expenses, preparing monthly financial reports, year end reports and monthly presentations of those reports. This role is considered for dividing into two separate, but related task areas; Bookkeeper and Treasurer.

Community Relations

  • Community Relations involves promoting community engagement, collecting memberships and coordinating parent volunteers for programs, events and various fundraisers throughout the year. Assistance is needed to coordinate volunteers for major events like the Fun Fair and other fundraisers that require a lot of parent hands to contribute to their success.

Our year round lunch programs are popular and always in need of volunteer support so students receive their pre-ordered lunches, milk and smoothies in a timely, organized manner. We are proud to support and organize these programs. Volunteers are welcome to help on days that suit and when they are available during the year.

Attendance Check

  • Assist Morden’s administration and office staff to conduct attendance calls to parents or guardians. Volunteers are needed to make calls in the morning to parents of students who are absent and have not notified the school.
  • Time Commitment: 30 minutes (8:30am-9:00am). You select a day that suits you.

Always a fun, fast time for volunteers and smiling students looking forward to their Special Lunches! Parents are welcome to bring their little ones.
  • Time Commitment: 12:00pm - 12:30pm every other Friday

Milk Program

Orders are sorted each day and students from each class pick up their classroom order for distribution.  It's that simple.

Special Events are real community engagement opportunities where ideas are shared, creativity flourishes and volunteers get to choose their areas of interest based on availability . The atmosphere is energetic and high spirited as new and old friends work together in teams toward common goals - to make each event enjoyable, successful and memorable.

Meet the Teacher Open House

  • Every year, families can look forward to an annual Meet The Teachers Open House Event in early October. It is a fundraising event with opportunities to get to learn more about Morden, meet the staff, new families and re-acquaint with old friends.

Winter Holiday Bazaar

  • Our Winter Holiday Bazaar will take place in December on the same evening as the Winter Holiday Concert. This fundraiser is run by grade 7 and 8 students with support from Morden parent volunteers. Grade 7 and 8 students meet to share ideas about items to sell while parent volunteers stretch their creative arms too and arrange more items that will inspire shoppers to buy. Volunteers are needed to organize the bazaar, set up and clean up afterwards.
  • Time Commitment: 3 to 6 hours depending on assignment

Sports Days

  • Twice a year parents help cheer on and encourage our students in at least 2 fun fitness activities - the Terry Fox Run in September and the Fun Day in June. On Terry Fox Day, volunteers line up along the run route for security, directions and cheering. On Play Day, volunteers travel around the field to various stations with noise makers offering enthusiasm and supporting school spirit. The team of volunteers also buys and hands out super cool popsicles at the end of the day. The teachers and students are thrilled with the energy and attention and your own kids will enjoy having you around to show off to! Eight volunteers for each event are needed and more is even better!
  • Time Commitment: Terry Fox Day (September) - 3 hours / Play Day (June) - Your Choice

Back To School Social and Movie Night

  • An enjoyable evening out for the whole family under the stars re-connecting with friends and meeting new Morden families while taking in a movie, ice cream and assorted refreshments. Volunteers are needed to organize and purchase treats and drinks, set up seating, serve refreshments, act as greeters and help to clean up following the event which takes place at the end of August.
